Power station turns off with a fridge? The auto-off setting

A fridge stops drawing power between cycles, and some stations read that as "nothing plugged in". Here is the setting that fixes it.

You plug a fridge into a power station, everything works, and a few hours later the outlet is off. The battery still has charge. Nothing is broken: a power-saving setting switched the outlet off.

Why it happens

A fridge does not draw power all the time. Its compressor runs, stops, and starts again later. While it rests, the fridge draws almost nothing. Some stations treat a near-zero draw as "nothing plugged in" and turn the outlet off to save battery. The compressor then cannot restart.

EcoFlow: the AC timeout

EcoFlow's manuals for the EcoFlow RIVER 3 Plus and the DELTA series say it directly: the AC output turns off automatically when it is idle for a certain period, and intermittent loads like refrigerators or air conditioners can trigger this. For medicines, vaccines or food, EcoFlow says to set the AC timeout to "never" in the EcoFlow app, and to check the battery level regularly.

BLUETTI: ECO mode

The BLUETTI AC180 manual describes an ECO mode: when it is on, the AC and DC outputs turn off automatically if the station carries a low load or no load for a while. If your fridge keeps losing power, check whether ECO mode is on. The manual says an ECO icon shows on the screen when it is enabled.

Other brands

Look in your manual for words like auto-off, timeout, standby or ECO. The setting is usually in the app or a settings menu.

How long will it run the fridge?

A typical full-size fridge averages about 60 W. Our fridge runtime guide has a calculator, and every station page shows the hours for its own battery.
